Booking a private medical appointment for the first time can feel daunting. Is it right for you? Will it be worth it?
Many of our patients are new to private healthcare and come to us because they want answers for their symptoms, and treatment they have struggled to get. Private consultations allow time to explore your symptoms, discuss the latest treatment options, and create an individualised plan tailored to your needs. At York Clinic, we provide expert, evidence-based care, helping you feel supported at every stage of your menopause journey.
A menopause Discovery Call is a free, 15-minute chat with one of our experienced doctors. It’s designed to answer any questions you have and help you decide whether a full consultation is right for you.
Common questions we are asked include:
During your Discovery Call, the doctor will listen to your story, provide guidance, and advise whether our clinic can help. If your concerns fall outside the care we provide, we can signpost you to other appropriate services.
To book a Discovery Call, visit our Book Now page and select “Discovery Call” from the dropdown appointment list. Choose a time and day that suits you, and we will call you at the scheduled time.
We want you to feel completely confident before booking a full appointment. Take your time exploring our site, and when comparing services, ensure any clinician you consider is fully British Menopause Society-accredited and that the service is CQC-registered.
If you already know what you want to discuss, you can go ahead and book a full appointment directly.
You will be taken to a secure payments page to pay by credit or debit card. Payments are processed within our secure clinical records system.

We train doctors, nurses, and pharmacists in menopause care, supporting them to achieve British Menopause Society (BMS) certification. This helps raise menopause expertise across the NHS and ensures patients receive the highest standard of care.
Every clinician at The York Clinic works in the NHS. Private practice should complement, not reduce, NHS capacity. We founded the clinic to fill a gap in York, where there was previously no specialist menopause service in either community or hospital care.
Our team consists of highly trained healthcare professionals with BMS certification and specialist experience in menopause care. Many of our clinicians hold advanced BMS qualifications, recognised benchmarks of expertise in managing complex menopause cases - ensuring evidence-based, personalised treatment for all patients.
HRT shortages in the UK have caused women to be switched between products, sometimes with serious consequences. We pre-purchase medication for our patients, guaranteeing supply for as long as you remain with us - a service no other clinic currently offers.
We provide specialist care for complex cases, including post-cancer menopause, chemotherapy-induced menopause, surgical menopause, and Primary Ovarian Insufficiency (POI). If you’ve been told your situation is “too complicated,” we encourage you to speak to us.
Menopause is rarely solved in a single appointment. Our membership model provides continuity of care, covering follow-up appointments, prescription fees, and direct email access to your named clinician - ensuring long-term support from someone who truly knows you.
Beyond treating patients, we improve menopause care across the NHS. Our training programme equips clinicians with advanced skills, expanding expertise nationally and raising standards in menopause care.
We collaborate with employers of all sizes, offering training, presentations, and voucher schemes to support their female workforce.
With clear communication and sharing of your treatment plan with your NHS GP where appropriate, we ensure continuity of care and support within the broader healthcare system.
Where needed, we refer to trusted specialists and menopause-focused wellbeing partners, including nutrition, strength & conditioning, and professional coaching.
If a prescription is recommended, you can receive a private menopause prescription directly from us. Alternatively, you may choose to discuss your treatment plan with your NHS GP – whatever works best for you.
We have access to medications not always available on the NHS, including Fezolinetant and female-specific testosterone products such as Androfeme. We also guarantee a reliable supply of medication to our patients. Private HRT prescriptions are usually received the next day anywhere in the UK – HRT delivered directly to your door. Prescriptions can also be sent to your local pharmacy if preferred.
After your consultation, you will receive a personalised treatment plan. With your consent, we can also share a copy with your NHS GP to ensure continuity of care.
You then have full choice over what to do next. There are three options, and you are free to choose any of them. You can also move between options at any time. Our focus is simple – to support you in whatever way works best for you.
Option 1 – Return to NHS care
If you wish, we can share your personalised treatment plan and recommendations with your NHS GP. This ensures your GP has a clear understanding of the suggested approach and can continue to support your care. We are also happy to respond to any queries from your GP if clarification is needed, providing reassurance and continuity throughout your treatment.
Option 2 – Pay-as-you-go private follow-up
Continue with The York Clinic on your own terms. Book follow-up appointments whenever you need them through our Book Now page, with no ongoing commitment.
Option 3 – Join our Membership
Our membership is one of the very few offered by a specialist menopause service in the UK. It includes two follow-up appointments per year, direct email access to your named clinician between appointments, and no prescription fees. Costs are spread across manageable monthly payments, with the option to cancel at any time. Around half of our patients choose membership, as having a clinician who knows you and remembers your history can make a significant difference. For full details, see our Membership page.
After your appointment, we’ll send you a short Google review link. Reviews help other women find safe, qualified menopause care, and we would be very grateful if you’re willing to share your experience.
In addition, we have a bespoke clinic review form, which allows you to provide more detailed feedback directly to us. This helps us continually improve our service and ensure the best possible care for all our patients.
