It is common to be unsure who might be best to see; a doctor or nurse. We are always happy to assist. The bottom line is that doctors have more training to deal with complex diagnosis and management. However, specialist nurses often have greater experience in some clinical areas.
Both our nurse and doctor will:
Listen to you
Understand you
Explain what is happening
Assess what you need
Create a treatment plan based around you
Prescribe medications
Signpost to other services
Share your treatment plan with NHS services
Both have British Menopause Association Accreditation
As a GP, Helen is highly experienced in medical complexity. Helen can assess and treat all problems, no matter how big or small you may think they are. We would advise specifically seeing Helen if you think your symptoms may be due to another long term medical condition, but want to explore whether menopause might be part of the picture. Or if you have more than one other long term condition or are on multiple medications.
Elizabeth’s is a highly experienced nurse, working in NHS general practice. She can assess and treat all patients presenting with symptoms due to perimenopause or menopause. With her hospital experience with breast cancer, we would advise seeing Elizabeth if breast cancer is a particular concern, or you have a history of breast cancer. We would also suggest seeing her if you have gone through menopause due to chemotherapy or other cancer treatment.
