What sets us apart from other menopause care providers?

Our doctors and specialist nurse are highly trained in menopause management and are all accredited by the British Menopause Society. With extensive experience supporting women with both straightforward and complex menopause needs, we provide expert, individualised care at every stage.

We support women through the full menopause transition, including perimenopause, menopause, and post-menopause. Our expertise also includes managing menopausal symptoms during and after cancer treatment, as well as surgical and medical menopause. We provide specialist care for early menopause, including primary ovarian insufficiency (POI).

York Clinic is the only specialist menopause service based in York, with convenient access for patients across North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, and the East Riding. Many of our patients travel from Leeds, Harrogate, Scarborough, Thirsk, Manchester, and London. We also offer online consultations, making our services accessible to women across the UK.

We are one of the few specialist menopause clinics in the UK to offer a membership option, providing ongoing support, continuity of care, and access to medication where needed.

We understand that HRT availability can sometimes be limited. Through our trusted pharmacy partner, we are able to ensure reliable access to HRT and other prescribed treatments for our patients. As a private clinic, we can also prescribe newer and specialist treatments, including Fezolinetant and Androfeme, which may not always be available on the NHS.

For patients based locally, we are also able to offer home appointments within a reasonable distance of York. Please contact us for more information.

What Makes Different

What Makes The York Clinic Different

Training

We train doctors, nurses, and pharmacists in menopause care, supporting them to achieve British Menopause Society (BMS) certification. This helps raise menopause expertise across the NHS and ensures patients receive the highest standard of care.

Ethics

Every clinician at The York Clinic works in the NHS. Private practice should complement, not reduce, NHS capacity. We founded the clinic to fill a gap in York, where there was previously no specialist menopause service in either community or hospital care.

Accreditation & Expertise

Our team consists of highly trained healthcare professionals with BMS certification and specialist experience in menopause care. Many of our clinicians hold advanced BMS qualifications, recognised benchmarks of expertise in managing complex menopause cases - ensuring evidence-based, personalised treatment for all patients.

Medication Guarantee

HRT shortages in the UK have caused women to be switched between products, sometimes with serious consequences. We pre-purchase medication for our patients, guaranteeing supply for as long as you remain with us - a service no other clinic currently offers.

Complex Care Expertise

We provide specialist care for complex cases, including post-cancer menopause, chemotherapy-induced menopause, surgical menopause, and Primary Ovarian Insufficiency (POI). If you’ve been told your situation is “too complicated,” we encourage you to speak to us.

Membership

Menopause is rarely solved in a single appointment. Our membership model provides continuity of care, covering follow-up appointments, prescription fees, and direct email access to your named clinician - ensuring long-term support from someone who truly knows you.

Training Programme

Beyond treating patients, we improve menopause care across the NHS. Our training programme equips clinicians with advanced skills, expanding expertise nationally and raising standards in menopause care.

Workplace Support

We collaborate with employers of all sizes, offering training, presentations, and voucher schemes to support their female workforce.

Collaboration with NHS GPs

With clear communication and sharing of your treatment plan with your NHS GP where appropriate, we ensure continuity of care and support within the broader healthcare system.

Referrals & Wellbeing Partners

Where needed, we refer to trusted specialists and menopause-focused wellbeing partners, including nutrition, strength & conditioning, and professional coaching.

Who we help

Problems we manage

One sign of menopause is irregularity in your menstrual cycle. You may experience shorter or longer cycles, heavier or lighter periods, spotting between periods or skipped periods altogether. These changes typically occur as your hormone levels fluctuate during perimenopause, the transitional phase leading up to menopause. This can make it more challenging for women who do not have a regular period. For example: those using certain contraceptives such as the pill, implant, injection or a coil. This also includes patients who have had surgical treatments, such as endometrial ablation or hysterectomy, when the womb is removed but ovaries remain.
Are characterised by sudden feelings of heat that spread across your body. Flushes are a hallmark symptom of menopause.
Are hot flushes that occur during sleep, which disrupt your rest and contribute to feelings of fatigue.
Many women experience sleep disturbances during menopause, including difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking up feeling unrested. Night sweats and hormonal fluctuations contribute to these sleep disruptions.
You may feel sad or low, leaving you with less interest and enjoyment in life. It can vary in intensity and duration. Depression may cause difficulties concentrating, reduced energy levels, appetite changes, weight gain, sleep issues and have an impact on your sex drive.
You may feel fearful, tense or overwhelmed in situations that would have previously been a part of routine life. Anxiety can come on suddenly and cause physical symptoms such as a fast heart rate, dry mouth, sweating, chest pains, nausea, sleep disturbance, headaches and in severe cases, panic attacks.
Hormonal fluctuations during menopause can affect your mood and emotional well-being. You may experience mood swings, irritability, anxiety, or feelings of sadness or depression. These emotional changes can vary in intensity and duration for each individual.
Are more common due to the increased hormonal fluctuations women experience. As a result of this migraine severity and frequency can worsen during this time.
Are the sensation of your heart beating fast, missing a beat or fluttering in your chest. This can last for seconds to minutes. Palpitations are more common in menopause and can also occur with other medical conditions.
Many women describe that their brains feel like ‘cotton wool’ and it is difficult to think clearly. It may be difficulty remembering words or names, struggling to concentrate or misplacement of items and time lapses.

Can be related to both physical and psychological changes of menopause. Falling levels of oestrogen lead to reduced blood flow, vaginal dryness and a reduced elasticity of the tissues which may lead to painful sex. It can be more difficult to orgasm due to reduced sensitivity of the tissues. The psychological impact of menopause is also incredibly impactful. You may be experiencing moods swings, anxiety, depression and body changes which in turn impact your self-confidence, emotional wellbeing and relationships.

Many women find their joints become more stiff and painful with falling oestrogen levels. This can affect any joint. Common places include your knees, shoulders, elbows, and hands. It may feel like a dull ache, twinge or shooting sensation. Falling testosterone levels mean it is also harder to build up and maintain muscle.
As oestrogen levels decline during menopause, you may notice you need to pass urine more frequently during the day and night. You can also experience urgency, and pain on passing urine. You may have more frequent bouts of cystitis and urinary tract infections requiring treatment. It is also more common to experience urinary incontinence. This is a distressing symptom which leads to the leaking of urine. Incontinence symptoms can become more problematic and severe as the menopause progresses.
As oestrogen levels decline during menopause, you may notice changes in your vaginal health. These can include itching, discharge changes, recurrent thrush, painful sex, libido loss and changes to sexual arousal. These symptoms can impact your sexual health and relationship, and overall quality of life.
