Corporate Menopause Support

1
3.5 million women in the UK workforce are aged aged between 50 and 64 in the UK.
2
75% experience symptoms of menopause, with about 25% experiencing severe symptoms that significantly impact their daily lives. (1)
3
A survey from the British Menopause Society (BMS) showed that 45% of women felt it had a detrimental effect on their ability to work, and 10% had left their job due to severe symptoms. (2)
4
19% of women need time off work due to menopausal symptoms, with a quarter of those women not feeling able to say the real reason why they needed time off. (4)
5
A survey conducted by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) found that 59% of women experiencing menopause said it had a negative impact on their work (1)
6
A study by the University of Nottingham found that menopause symptoms resulted in a 33% decrease in workplace performance, with 20% of women reporting that their symptoms negatively affected their productivity.
7
Women experiencing menopause are more likely to reduce their working hours, take sick leave, or consider early retirement due to the severity of their symptoms and the lack of support at work.

Common symptoms affecting workplace performance include hot flushes, night sweats, sleep disturbances, fatigue, anxiety, depression, and cognitive difficulties such as memory loss and concentration issues.

Employers have a responsibility to ensure reasonable adjustments are made to take into account menopausal symptoms.

Workplace adaptations are required under the Health and Safety at Work Act, the Equality Act and Disability and Discrimination Act.

Despite the significant impact, only 30% of workplaces offer any sort of menopause-related support or policies.
